Beginner hiking trails in Malaysia
Looking to set your foot into hiking but don't know where to start? I know, it's overwhelming. So many hills and mountains, damn where do I even start.
Don't worry, I used to be like you and that got me all demotivated and go back to just chilling at home. And you know those influencers saying "Beginner hill in KL", but end up at some strenuous trail with you fighting for your life and questioning your life choices (Bukit Madei, I'm looking at you), yea we don't want that.
So where did I start? I started going Bukit Wawasan last time, although it's labelled as beginner, me as a heavier person find it quite challenging as well and as someone who loves seeing the view, the peak has nothing much to offer. The trails was also limited to just A and B, so not much to play around there.
Now moving on to Bukit Gasing, now this is what I would recommend as a truly beginner-friendly trail. Now what makes a trail beginner-friendly? We can't expect it to be all flat grounds, but a trail that has elevation but also has some discounts (flat roads so that you can catch your breath) are good signs of a beginner-friendly trail. Well, Bukit Gasing has these, lots of pit stops to rest and catch a breather, people selling ice pops and some snacks and a good crowd so you don't appear in the news.
So far I can only vouch for these two, both are excellent choices to get started on hiking. Remember, start small and easy so you don't strain yourself, get traumatized and not hike again in twenty years.
That's all from me, happy hiking!
